Concentrol has always dedicated special effort to consider the global impact of the company, committing to generate a positive effect on society. To evaluate this impact, the company is guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN) in 2015.

The SDGs are a set of targets that address major development challenges worldwide, such as climate change, extreme poverty, inequality, and limited access to basic services. The chemical company has decided to integrate the SDGs into its operations with the aim of contributing to the achievement of these global goals.

These objectives arose from the commitment of 193 nations and seek to be a starting point for promoting the growth of our society, influencing future generations. The company has analyzed each area of impact to strengthen those with less impact and evaluate current ongoing actions.

In a previous article, we delved into the specific actions that Concentrol undertakes regarding water and energy, emphasizing the importance of sustainable management of these resources for the company’s development and the well-being of society as a whole. This time, we will discuss the company’s efforts concerning the SDGs.

Ending poverty and hunger, quality education, health, and well-being

One of our goals is to contribute to eradicating poverty and achieving zero hunger. To achieve this, we regularly collaborate with various charitable organizations such as the Red Cross, Caritas, Ser.Gi Foundation, Girona Est Foundation, Les Germanetes dels Pobres, and the Parish of Cogolls, all dedicated to providing social and educational support.

At Concentrol, we focus on promoting health and well-being both internally and externally. Internally, we strive to manufacture products that minimize negative impacts on health and the environment, implementing sustainable production processes that ensure quality, safety, and reduce our ecological footprint. Externally, we collaborate with child vaccination programs and offer direct support to the Goodgut medical prevention project.

We recognize the importance of work-life balance for the well-being and satisfaction of our employees. Therefore, we have established specific schedules that promote a healthy balance between both aspects of life. We offer flexibility and adaptation to each employee’s personal and family needs, as well as special schedules for particular situations, such as caring for dependent family members or pursuing studies.

It is essential for us that employees have more free time to spend with their families and engage in personal activities. That’s why we encourage a relaxed work environment and implement shorter workdays on Fridays and during the month of August, allowing our employees to enjoy more leisure time for their families or personal activities. Additionally, we promote physical activity and well-being by collaborating with different sports groups, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.

We maintain a close collaboration with the Trueta Biomedical Research Institute, reaffirming our commitment to research and innovation in the field of biotechnology. We work together on research into treatments that improve human health and minimize adverse impacts on health and the environment.

Quality education is another fundamental objective for Concentrol, in line with SDG 4. We actively engage in educational and research initiatives in the university and dual vocational training fields. Additionally, our collaboration with the doctorate program at the University of Girona stands out, allowing students to gain practical experience and advanced knowledge in their fields of study, contributing to scientific and technological advancement.

As a company, Concentrol’s products also contribute to SDGs concerning gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, and responsible consumption and production, among others.

Concentrol’s trajectory in CSR

Concentrol is a company that has long invested in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Good environmental, economic, social, and labor management practices are key points.

The company holds the SMETA 4-pillar certification, actively participates in ESG groups, and has been certified in ISO for environmental and quality management for years. Additionally, these factors earned us the Respon.cat 2022 Award for our trajectory in CSR for small and medium-sized businesses.

Concentrol also participates in European programs that support R&D+I, cooperating with other actors in the sector, both public and private, in research and innovation projects. These initiatives promote knowledge exchange, the development of new technologies, and the creation of sustainable and efficient solutions to address current and future industry challenges.

Despite significant progress in implementing the SDGs, there are still multiple challenges to face. Therefore, we remain committed to building a sustainable future and desire to continue receiving support and cooperation from all involved in this process. While we have made progress in adopting the SDGs, there is still a long way to go, and we are determined to face these challenges.
